North Berwick LawNorth Berwick Law

North Berwick Law lies just behind the East Lothian coastal town of North Berwick, and forms a distinctive landmark easily seen from Edinburgh and beyond. Topped by a whale-jaw arch, this conical hill rises sharply to 187m (613 feet). Geologically, the Law is a Lower Carboniferous volcanic plug, formed around 335 million years ago and composed of phonolytic trachyte. The hill was much later formed into a crag-and-tail, as a result of the action of glaciers.
