A modest mansionhouse in the South Rhins of Galloway, Ardwell House lies to the west of the estate village of Ardwell, 3 miles (5 km) south of Sandhead. Featuring crow-stepped gables, it was built c.1720, added to 1869-72 by Brown & Wardrop, who built a large Baronial extension and finally completely remodelled in 1956 by Anthony Wheeler (b.1919). The remodelling removed the Victorian extension, rebuilt the front and changed most of the interior. With fine views over Luce Bay, its gardens are open to the public during the summer months.
The estate extends to the west coast of the Rhins peninsula.
