Aberdeen Arts Centre
Former North Church of St. Andrew, Aberdeen
©2010 Gazetteer for Scotland
Formerly the North Church, Aberdeen Arts Centre lies on King Street and is regarded as the finest work of local architect John Smith (1781 - 1852). Built 1829-30, the building benefits from a portico supported in Ionic columns and reflects Smith's great attention to detail. Internally little of Smith's interiors remain following the conversion to the Arts Centre, incorporating a theatre and meetings rooms, in the 1950s.
