Sauchie District Public Hall

A former mining and textile weaving village in central Clackmannanshire, situated on high ground between Alloa and Tillicoultry. The Parish Church of Sauchie and Coalsnaughton dates from 1841 and many of the older cottages are built of red sandstone. Sauchie Tower, which dates from the early 15th Century, was built by the Shaws, one of whom was ambassador to Edward IV of England and later Governor of Stirling Castle. Built in 1865 the Sauchie Beam Engine House was used to pump water from the former Devon Colliery. There are annexes of Clackmannan College in Sauchie and the Carsebridge Business Centre is the focal point for electronic, textile and construction industries.
