Bonar Bridge

A village in Easter Ross, Highland Council Area, Bonar Bridge lies on a narrow strip of land between the Kyle of Sutherland and Dornoch Firth. It is situated at a crossing and road junction that was developed in the early 19th Century. An iron bridge over the Kyle, built by Thomas Telford, was erected in 1811-12. Washed away in 1892, this bridge was replaced by a William Arrol designed structure and in 1973 a third Bonar Bridge was built. A railway was brought to Bonar Bridge Station at nearby Ardgay in 1864 and with the advent of tourism, hotels and a golf course were created.
