Ardersier
Highland
A patriotic home, Ardersier
©2010 Gazetteer for Scotland
A settlement on the inner Moray Firth, Ardersier lies 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Inverness and just north of Inverness Airport. Founded by the Campbells of Cawdor who created a burgh of barony here in 1623 and formerly known as Campbelltown, Ardersier was the southern terminus of a ferry from the Middle Ages that linked with the Chanonry Point on the Black Isle. The nearby oil rig platform construction and repair site was developed in the 1970s to serve the North Sea oil industry.
